I think the DVR is the most wonderful thing ever invented as far as entertainment. I rarely watch live TV anymore. If a Husker game, for example, is to start at 2:30 PM I start the DVR to record and don't start watching until 3:30. That way I don't have to watch any commercials, halftime, and etc and I get done watching the game about the same time everyone else does.
