Good points on playing time, but with all due respect to Kurt Mann, he
might have been healthy enough to play but there's no doubt that he lost a
serious amount of strength during the period he had mononucleosis (if I
remember correctly) and would have had a hard time getting back to playing
condition. He had to endure the double-edge sword of having an illness sap
his strength while not being able to lift or train over a period would and
that made him weaker as well.
At the time, Mann had a huge number of starts under his belt, and had he
not gotten ill, he would have been the starter for most of the season.
Apparently, God had other plans for him and Brett Byford.
