I thought I'd go through the Top 25 and see who looked better or worse or
about the same as NU today. Let me make this clear, I AM NOT saying NU is
better than these teams, I'm just saying we looked better.
1 USC 38-10 over Idaho
I'd say we looked quite a bit better than USC. Idaho's is probably not in
the top 100 teams in the NCAA. Nevada won the ACC last year...I will also
say that USC was clearly not into this game. They looked like they were at a
party and played some occasional football. Idaho dominated USC in the 2nd
quarter and really wasn't that out of this game.
2 LSU 45-0 over Miss St
They looked rough early, but I'll still give LSU the nod. Their defense was
sick.
3 West Virginia 62-24 over West Michigan
I dunno, scored 62 on a MAC team, but also let up 24 points to a MAC team.
Who would win between West Michigan and Nevada? Probably Nevada, so NU gets
the nod.
4 Texas 21-13 over Ark St
Definitely NU. Texas played Ark St and had to recover an onside kick to keep
the win. Yikes. McCoy looked fairly average and although he only threw 1
pick, 3 other passes went in and out of the hands of a Ark St defender.
5 Michigan 34-32 loss App St.
NU, duh. I don't even need to comment.
6 Florida 49-3 over W Kentucky
I have to take this one again because Nevada beats W Kent. This could go
either way.
7 Wisconsin 42-21 over Wazzou
This was a tough one, but I'll give Wisc the nod for a better opponent.
8 Oklahoma 79-10 over North Texas
I know NT is a patsy, but OU scored 21 points in each of the first 3
quarters. Couldn't have dominated much better than that.
9 Virginia Tech 17-7 over East Carolina
I know this is a feel good story team and I don't want to play that down,
but they really didn't look good against a mediocre East Carolina. #9 is WAY
too high for Va Tech, IMO
10 Louisville 73-10 over Murray St
Even though Murray's not near the team Nevada is, they couldn't have
dominated much better than this.
11 Ohio State 38-6 over Youngstown St
Not even a Div I team, not that impressive.
12 California 45-31 over #15 Tennessee
Easy, they played a top 15 team and won.
13 Georgia 35-14 over OSU
Good win for Georgia. OSU's not great, but they're not that bad either and
Georgia was in control.
14 UCLA 45-17 over Stanford
Sagarin's #68, (Nevada #75). Hmm, pretty even teams, we looked better.
15 Tennessee loss 45-31 to Cal
I'll give NU the nodd because of the loss, but I'm pretty conflicted about
it because of the quality of opponent.
16 Rutgers 38-3 over Buffalo
We all know Buffalo's story. They were one of the worse teams in Div I, but
they are getting better. Still 38-3 over the Sagarin #166...NU
17 Penn State 59-0 over Florida Atl
I'll give the Lions some love. They couldn't have won by too much more and
shutouts are always nice.
18 Auburn 23-13 over KSU
Sorry guys, I just don't think KSU is that good, I think they may be
SLIGHTLY better than Nevada.
19 Florida State DNP
20 Nebraska 52-10 win over Nevada
It's a push :)
21 Arkansas 46-26 over Troy
Wasn't a terrible win, but not as impressive over the #100 sagarin team.
22 TCU 27-0 over Baylor
I dunno about this one. I think Baylor will be a little better this year and
I think TCU's pretty good. Is Baylor > Nevada? It's close, therefore NU gets
the nod
23 Hawaii 63-6 over N. Colorado
They had most of those 63 points at half. Anytime your QB has 415 yds and 6
TD in a half...well not too bad.
24 Boise State 56-7 over Weber St.
I wasn't going to do this one, but Weber St just isn't that impressive.
They're certainly not as good as Nevada
25 Texas A&M 38-7 over Montana St.
Sound win, but Montana St < Nevada.
So I guess what I'm trying to say is, we looked better than 15 of the 23 Top
25 teams I compared us to, IMO.
This is just my opinion of what I saw. Again, I'm NOT saying NU is better or
would win. I'm just saying I think we looked good today.
