It was pretty clear that your "point", in defending the guy whose
tag-line involves being on a hate-filled party bus to fire the NU
football coach (whose sin is not winning enough football games), was
that Callahan might deserve the sort of abuse he was getting because of
a couple of "rash" remarks he made in the last four years and because
of your concern for how he might view Nebraskans. And, your "point"
was that he could deserve abuse even if those who know him attest to
his character, because "even Hitler had friends". (Others seem to
think his high salary entitles fans to abuse him.)

My "point" is unchanged: how should he view Nebraskans who verbally
harass the coaches' children, who yell verbal abuse at players, and who
carry that hate-filled and corrosive attitude into public forums such
as this one? I know that, as a life-long Nebraskan, I don't like it.

I like the Nebraska fans, who applaud the visiting football team as
they leave the field. I like the Nebraska fans, who at women's
volleyball and basketball games applaud the introduction of the other
team. (I remember what an impression it made on me as a child when
the fans did so at men's basketball games in the Coliseum.) Those
fans are the greatest fans in college sports.

Actually, I don't doubt that you might be a really good guy except when
you're defending miscreants by comparing the target of their abuse to
Hitler. And, I'm sure your friends are a better judge of your good
character than I would be only from reading your posts. However, while
I do object to that kind of rhetorical abuse and regret it when NU fans
aren't the greatest fans in college sports, I don't hate you and I'm
not on a "party bus" to see you fired and I won't yell abuse at your
kids --- and, I'll even criticize (not defend) those who act that way
(even if you, like some of the coaches, really deserve to be fired).

I'm done with this thread. Those who have posted defending their hate
and abuse party bus, by saying: "Hey, we're just having fun," deserve
criticism, but not a response. They are like grade-school bullies who
have their "fun" attacking someone who can't respond (in this case
because of the relative anonymity of the Internet and the good sense of
the targets of their abuse). (As Steve Stone has often said imagine if
these posters had to say so face-to-face.) What they aren't is the
greatest fans in college football.
