Perhaps "didn't play too well" could be a matter of definition. I saw 
most of the PennState vs Buffalo game and some of the Syracuse vs 
Buffalo game and came away with these impessions:

1) With few exceptions, the Buffalo team is composed entirely of true 
freshmen and sophomores.

2) The defense and offense each played as a cohesive unit.

3) They committed very few penalties

4) They played traditional powers PennState and Syracuse pretty 
close, losing eventually but never giving up.

5) Buffalo looks and acts like a well-coached team.

6) I thought the play calling on offense was pretty much on the money.
