[Husker] Good News Bad News

This does not surprise me on several levels.

First, I have read in some circles that TO should not have been the AD
because he lacks the business acumen required to run a big time Athletic
Department. I strongly disagree. He ran a big time football program and was
quite successful in managing a number of differing personalities and getting
them to work together. It is very similar. Additionally, he taught ethics in
the business school at NU. I think he understands how to manage people.

Second, the last thing that NU needs is a repeat of the FS situation. TO is
not likely to repeat the mistakes of SP by telegraphing a fire before the
end of the season, creating a controversial fire in the media, etc. TO does
not tend to create media frenzies by not giving people chances, on the
contrary, he tends to by the media's take over extend forgiveness. (I don't
necessarily agree with that). I think it is much more likely that if BC
leaves it will be amicable, at least publically. A ugly firing does neither
the university, the program, nor BC, any good.

Third, TO has been in BC's seat. He survived the 1970s. I know y'all will
say it wasn't this bad, but I remember the "Linda Lovelace" bumper stickers.
TO learned with time and he is likely to extend the same opportunity to BC.
I am not sure that is a bad thing either. BC has his strengths as a coach,
but he needs to change some things. If he can it could be a win/win
situation. Remember TO is a psychologist and teacher at heart. I doubt he
gives up on BC until BC gives up.
