Without a link to Tom's statements it's hard to tell just what message
Bill Callahan might be getting.

I agree. Tom will not force Callahan or anyone else out before the end
of the season at the earliest. I presume that was the substance of
Tom's private communications with Callahan, along with the public
statements of the same.

> If this is the case, the job is Callahan's as long as he wants it.

That is true for the next 5 games (plus a bowl, should we reach one).
I do not think this is necessarily true beyond that timeframe.

I'm sure Bill Callahan has his own style of personnel management that
was not greatly influenced by Pederson nor will it be by Osborne. (Was
it influenced by Al Davis? Jon Gruden?) Certainly Osborne cannot have,
as a condition of future employment, "do things my way". If so, he
will have a tremendously difficult time finding a replacement head
coach who is willing to do it Tom's way because Tom says so.

This is always prudent. Is that Callahan's problem? Who can say? I
have not tried to advise him, nor do I know that he has received any
"good" advice from anyone that should be followed, and that he's
ignored.

Who cares? The question is: is it good for the University?
