Isn't Osborne the one who quit coaching in his prime (under false pretenses)
so we could be saddled with his friend Frank Solich? We're happy with him
finding our next football coach?

Coincidence?

To be historically accurate, TO has stated in the past that he stepped down
following the 1997 season to follow through with a promise that he made to
Frank Solich many years earlier, that being that Frank would take over the
program after the 1997 season. Frank had been approached by other football
programs and Tom wanted to keep Frank at NU and hand over the program to Solich and
keep the coaching staff in house---thus keeping the Husker Tradition/Legacy
alive. In retrospect, TO admitted that we really wasn't ready to retire 1997
but he wanted to keep his promise to Frank, he had some health issues, and
wanted to spend more time with Nancy. He did not retire from coaching to
immediately run for political office.
