I am not an expert on this subject, but there have been a few questions
floating around, so I thought I'd share what I know.
Question 1 - How big of a deal is losing Cook?
Cook was a considerable donor that will be missed, no doubt. Even if we can
replace his money, which I believe we can and more, We seem to be behind the
8-ball a little when it comes to finances and need to do some catching up.
I am not OK with just assuming TO would be the A.D. or even a good one, but
I would think he would be able to heal Dan's wounds a little. It was no
secret that Dan and Steve P were good friends, so Dan's taking this hard.
IMO, it would be really classy of Steve to call Dan and try to persuade him
to change his position, but that's another discussion.
Question 2 - Can we replace Cook's money?
The answer IMO is almost unequivocally yes. There are several large donors
(like Sokol in Omaha for instance) who are 'coming back into the fold' so to
speak, now that Pedey's gone. On a much smaller scale, I personally know
quite a few people who don't donate truckloads of money, but made their
first donation in years yesterday. Even though their contributions weren't
millions, their total annual donations probably are a few thousand dollars,
and I sincerely doubt the people I know are the only people who felt that
way. I'd be willing to bet there are even quite a few on this list. Let's
also not forget that many former players were 'disenfranchised' and will
probably start donating again as well.
Overall --
Even with Cook's position, I believe pretty strongly that the U receives
quite a bit more donations without Pedey than with him, especially if Paul
Meyers comes back now. As I stated to the list a few weeks ago when he
resigned, I doubt Husker Nation realizes how big a deal it was that he left
(I think we're starting to see the impact now).
Hope that helps clear things up.
