[Husker] Pelini is GONE FOREVER

After everything that has happened in the last few
years, my perspective has changed. When the search
for a new coach began, I thought Pellini was
under-qualified. He had never been higher in the
ranks than his position of DC at NU, and I thought it
was too early for him.
At the time, the Huskers struggled on offense. I,
like many others, thought we needed an offensive guru
to be the HC, and the D would be fine. I was wrong.
BC is not a motivator, IMHO, Pellini is. Remember how
our kids were fired up for the Alamo Bowl vs MSU? I
do.
Now, after his stint at LSU, I think he is ready and
may be just what this program needs. Someone hungry,
with some fire, who is less worried about "two
inches", and more concerned about poppin somebody.
The Blackshirts do not plant people like they used
too. The O line doesn't not lay people out.
BC may know offense, however, there is nothing in his
resume to suggest he is a guru, but I was never on
board with him and never really felt like he was a
college type coach.
This term "Heritage Husker" is annoying. If SP had
not cleaned house, there would be more ties to the old
guard, but those people are long gone.
Someone asked why we care about past players/coaches.
I will tell you why I do.
I love the Huskers. I watch, but do not care about,
the NFL, NBA, or MLB. If I do watch, I pull for any
past Huskers on the field. I have one team, and only
one team, the Huskers.
I won't drive 20 minutes to watch the Jagwads, er,
Jaguars for free, but I will buy a plane ticket,
hotel, rental car, and pay a scalper, to watch the
Huskers. Heck, I watched the women's BOWLING team
compete for the NC on ESPN a few years ago. It was
NU, so I watched it.
They are a part of me. People down here connect me
with the Huskers. It is usually one of the first
things that people bring up to me when I see them. In
Florida, you have Disney, beaches, sunshine, and about
7 Div. 1A schools. A particular football team is so
far down on the list. When I say Nebraska to someone
not from there, they associate it with corn, beef, and
football. That is pretty unique to Nebraska.
I am happy that SP is gone. The reason I am happy is
his attitude. Had he not been so arrogant and not
made so many changes, destroyed so many traditions, I
may feel different. Nebraska is a part of me, a part
of who I am. I was not born there, I went to college
here in Florida, but I grew up there in a tiny town in
the Panhandle, and I connected with that team.
I was in grade school when they played Clemson in the
OB. I got hooked. Turner Gill was my QB. I fell in
love with the beauty of the option. Craig, Rozier,
Rimmington, Fryar, Schellen, Swanson, Kimball, were my
boys. When they lost to Miami in '84, I missed two
days of school. I listened to them on the radio every
Saturday and never missed a game on TV. Maybe it was
my visits to my dad's house, who gave me crap about
being a Husker fan, that spurred me on.
Anyway, I think most of us have a story about what
connects us to this team, and creates a bond unlike
any other fan base in the country.
