Pearlman was asked directly if he was planning to offer or had offered the job to Tom and he hesitated and then said that he didn't want to get into that right now. Take that for what it is worth. It did sound to me like he has been talking to TO quit a bit and would continue to do so. If your going to seek his input on everything wouldn't it make sense to at least offer him the job? If he says no he says no.

Yes, he said he has regularly consulted with Osborne over the years, but
it doesn't appear to me he's talked to Tom about any specific role within
the Athletic Dept. BTW, the blog at the Journal-Star site has a report on
conversation with Osborne that includes this statement regarding Osborne's
name being tossed around a lot:
Well, I'd rather not even talk about that right now, because I don't
know what that means, or what those duties would be. I've had no
serious conversations about it.
Osborne also said Perlman didn't get any input from him on the
decision to fire Pederson.
Infer what you want from that, TO doesn't sound like a guy actively looking
for a job at Nebraska, though.
