I don't particularly love Harvey Perlman (and I'll get into my reasons
if someone really wants to know), but I think we need to let that one
go. For one, I imagine it would go over in the academic community about
as well as the Solich firing went over in the national media. (Whether
you agreed with it or not, hardly anyone outside of Nebraska thought
firing Solich was a great move).
Secondly, it would cost more money to buyout his contract, and unlike
firing people in the athletic department, it would almost have to come
out of taxpayer pockets. We need to save the money for cleaning up the
Callahan mess. I am very sure that Callahan will be shown the door at
the end of the season. No AD in their right mind is going to come in
and say "these guys are doing a great job." SP was the only reason
Callahan is still here and he is gone. Firing SP was the first step
toward getting our program back. The rest will come soon enough.
