I watch a lot of pro football, three games on Sunday and 1 on Monday night.
Guess you'd call me a junkie. I especially like John Madden because of his
insight and explanations of defensive alignments and what individual
player's responsibilities are in those coverages. Last night he was
commenting on the West Coast Offense. He said, and I'm paraphrasing, that
the offense lives on slants and crossing patterns. He said you need a
quarterback, who is mobile in the pocket to buy an extra moment of time,
accurate with his throws, and most important, can read the defensive
coverage. He said you have to have balance running and passing to be
successful. He also said previously that it takes time for the quarterback
to learn the system.
This is why I disagree that Callahan should be given more time. I don't
think the pure West Coast that he coaches will ever be consistently
successful in college football. By the time the quarterback gets the game
experience and learns the system, he is a senior, or he's graduated. I
don't think we want to suffer through 3 years of learning to have one good
year. If Callahan stays, he needs to revise his offense so a college
quarterback can learn the system in a relative short time. I don't think he
is very good at calling plays either. I think he needs to turn the offense
over to a coordinator and concentrate on being the CEO.
I say clean the house, bring in Jerry Moore from Appellation State, who I
believe has Husker roots and 2 consecutive Division 1 championships, with
Grant Wistrom, and Tom Rathman as assistants.

Yes, and that's the only change that needs to be made FOR NOW. I'd give
Callahan a little time with a better d-coordinator before I'd give him the
boot.
I know, I know, that doesn't satisfy everyone's anger. I know, the offense
hasn't played good the last 2 games. Fact of the matter is, the offense
was
really good last year and still has only had 2 bad games this year. That's
not grounds for firing.
Flame away as I'm sure you will
Skylar
Skylar,
I agree with you 100%, changes at Def Coordinator and AD absolutely. I'm
okay with giving Callahan more time with more recruiting class(es). The
offense
hasn't been productive, but I also think that they are playing to shorten
the
games and lessen the damage being done by the other teams offense vs. our
porous defense.
