I'm not fan of Pederson -- but why does everyone think it was his ego that has caused these problems and not just a bad decision/mistake? I think it was a very poor decision, in 2003 but I'm not sure why its been identified as a personality defect with Pederson that he in no way could correct. Just curious really. I realize this isn't going to be based in any sort of fact.

Bob,
The reasons for people being upset right now go far beyond the fact that
the team is not winning. The calls for Pederson and even Callahan to
step down are almost unanimous at this point. If Solich was still the
head coach and Byrne the athletic director, and Nebraska found
themselves 4-3, I believe that many would be calling for the coaches
head, but it would be nothing like the outcry we are witnessing right
now.
Nebraskans, by their nature, are trusting and forgiving people.
Unfortunately, Steve Pederson exploited this and took advantage of the
Husker fan base to stroke his ego and selfishlessly put his career
aspirations over the duties of his job. The reaction right now is
because Nebraska fans are coming to grips with this and demanding a
solution. The cries over this would be quited if Callahan was
undefeated at this point, but they certainly wouldn't go away. The fact
that Callahan is losing has only magnified the problem with the UNL
athletic department and finally allowed some to see the light.
