You certainly have the right to disagree and I respect your
opinion. But, you will never convince me the greater share of Husker
fans would be thrilled with the program if the team never won a game but
showed a lot of hard work and preparation. Would you honestly be
satisfied if you saw records of 2-10, 1-11, and the like as long as you
saw hard work and preparation? I assume there are a lot of teams that
don't win much in the lower part of Division I-A that work very hard and
prepare well for each game. Would that, honestly, make you excited
enough to get pumped for each and every game knowing our back ends will
be handed to us but we will probably give one heckuva effort and we
prepared all we could? You may feel that way but that won't be good
enough for the lion's share of Husker Nation.
The average Husker fan wants to see Big 12 North Championships and
Big 12 Championships. Also a few National Championships peppered in
there would be nice. In order to do those things, of course, you have
to win. Why are people unhappy now? It is obviously because the team
isn't winning. It isn't because they are perceived as not being
prepared and not working hard. If they didn't work hard and weren't
prepared and yet won every game how many fans do you think would care?
Those things may not be there but that isn't why fans are basically
unhappy. I am getting more convinced and not less convinced the older I
get the fans motto, Husker fans or otherwise, is the same as Al Davis'
motto. That being "just win baby".
