Sorry to post again so soon but I had dinner with a NE State Senator on Friday who is also related to a Member of the Board of Regents.  He recently attended an event where Pederson was also in attendance. Being the outgoing type that he is the Senator re-introduced himself to Pederson and asked the usual ice-breaker question, "How's it going?". 

To which Pederson responded, "Fine." And turned around and walked away. 

Even the most non-"political" person in Lincoln would conclude that such a response was probably a less-than-brilliant move on Pederson's part.  

In a body of 49 legislators that control your budget and ultimately your salary, it's not generally in your best interests to create more enemies than you need, particularly when things aren't quite as rosy as one might otherwise pretend.
