BC knows his defense is a problem. So he is now developing a
gameplan to try to run the clock. That is why we are seeing the heavy
reliance on the run and keeping the ball in bounds the past two weeks.
I look at this from another view point.? Against MO we only ran the ball 25 times for 74 yards. Not much of a running game. Passing we had 25/43 for 223 yards and the passing was spread throughout the ball game.
Today we had 64 runs by three players for 206 yards and very little passing in the first half, just 18 yards. We wound up with 10-18 129 yards. A little more passing in the first half, only 8 attempts and one int.,?MAY have made a difference. For one thing, it would have helped Keller get in sinc, a rhythm that all passing QBs need.
My question is that since OSU is rated very low on pass defense (116), why wasn't the game plan to?have more passing. Set the passing up with runs at the start and then pass. Keller through very little the first half and then in the second half passed more, (10), ?but still wasn't in sinc. He had two interceptions but also completed passes of 21, 24, 44 yards while in the first half the longest gain was 5 yards.
I have to wonder?about his overall game plan for each game.?
MO has a very good offense, with a lot of players that can hurt you bad, as we saw. To me there should have?been a ball control game. We have the backs that can move the ball, Luck, Castille, Helu, Glen.?We have size on the OLine, who SHOULD be able to open holes.
But in all there is something missing. I listened to an interview with McBride, and graciously he wouldn't comment on the current staff, but from listening to him, what seems to?be missing is leadership on the field. And this?is something that has to be developed by the staff.? Another interview with TO concerning the '97 team. He remarked that the dream of two players, Peters and Winstrom was transmitted to the entire team and this dream and their leadership accomplished the MNC for 1997.
And?i think we all agree that TO could develop leadership in his athletes.
I also read about the team meeting that was held Tuesday and how instead of the usual 10 minute meeting it stretched for 45?minutes and how a number of players spook out. I was hopeful that this might be the beginning of leadership development, but it never?appeared on the field today.
