[Husker] Fans Mood

[clip] I think what is really getting interesting is the fans. I have
stated repeatedly that NU fans are like all other fans in that they will
support a winner.

SRJ: Certainly if the team has multiple losing seasons it will not have the
same fan support if for no other reason than a newer generation will not be
drawn to greatness because there will be no greatness to attract them. But
the Osborne legacy was about "More than winning." Playing up to and beyond
your potential and letting the final score take care of itself was what I
remember. Doing things the right way. Stuff like that. Most of the recent
posts don't see this team playing up to potential. I have no personal grudge
against Coz. I have heard of no of field rumors that suggest he has hurt the
program in the character department. I think he is not up to the job but I
appreciate the fact that he passed on a pro opportunity--probably out of
loyalty to his friend. I have some admiration for a Jamaal Lord who was
asked to play a position I don't think he was suited to play because no one
else at the time could play it better. I got aggravated when he threw the
ball into the ground but tried, sometimes with great difficulty, to keep
perspective. I got aggravated when Frank's team did not perform so well that
one year. I got aggravated when Oz's team got beat 22-0 by Miami. But I
always was ready to come back and hope and believe that there would be a
better year ahead. I didn't have the feeling that a sneaky corporate
mentality had eclipsed the tradition of NU football. What I feel now is
different than a fan's aggravation at losing (and we actually have only lost
twice so far). I have a pronounced lack of respect for someone on the
corporate side of things who came in and was way too slick for my Midwestern
taste. I don't have the same lack of respect for the current coaches. Maybe
they are misplaced at NU. I could see Callaghan possibly succeeding with
some staff adjustments. It is hard to get excited at a losing season but
ironically we are not there yet. It's about respect as far as I am
concerned. I did not miss having Phillips leave a year even though he was
good on the field. It's about more than winning. What we see on the field I
think reflects stuff that was done off of the field, though.
