Which part gave you that impression? The part where he says "This was
a very difficult decision", or the part where he says "I want to come
back here someday"?

You've never left a good job for a job you think might be better? I
have. Is it possible he's satisfied with his superiors, but doesn't
like the salary? Or his opportunity for advancement? Or one of the
other various criteria people use to judge job satisfaction? Why does
it have to be a problem with the AD?

So he says good things, but you don't believe him. But if he said bad
things ... let me guess. You'd believe all those?

Is there any set of statements he could have made that would make you
think he's not bitter or disgruntled? If not, then you've predecided
what this person must be thinking before even knowing anything about
it.

Look, there have been a number of Athletic Department staff who have
left this year. Some of them have been obviously unhappy. I get that.
I do think there's a problem in the athletic department, and believe
me I am no big SP fan. I can't tell that this particular situation is
anything more than a guy who likes his job, and has found an
opportunity he finds more interesting.
