[Husker] Interesting Letter

I saw that this morning. In fact, started writing a piece that included
it. here's a very rough draft and AN EXCERPT from a full article. It's a
horrible letter, for the follow reasons:

-------------------------------
If that weren't enough, today Huskerpedia published a letter of
empowerment from an Alumni Chapter that included the following two
references:

"we are proposing that we all get behind *OUR KIDS* and give them the
encouragement to stand tall, feel compassion ? not anger, concern - not
coldness, empathy - not finger pointing, show them the ?HUSKER SPIRIT? the
same as when they?re winning."

And if that's not enough:
"Did you ever get a letter *while you were at camp*, what a boost a piece
of mail gave you, if you were having a tough time, it could turn your
whole experience around (if you let it)."

I'm confused. Did you want my card of encouragement to have duckies,
bunnies, or flowers on it?

I realize that the author's heart was in the right place, but let's not
act like these guys are little kids whose kitty we just ran over in the
street. Ndamukong Suh is a MAN. A HUGE man. Not a kid. Not a BOY. A MAN.
If you thought that as a Nebraska fan you were going to catch hell because
we're not very good, wait until your opponents see an open letter that
refers to "Camp" and getting behind "Our Kids", for crying out loud. If
you thought going on the road was tough for these guys before, what the
hell do you think is going to happen now??

For reference, I didn't get a letter while I was at Boy Scout Camp. I did
get a call from my mom notifying me that my father was going into the
hospital for cancer surgery in late June of 1974. While we initially
thought it would be a success, it wasn't and he was dead by mid-September.
That's real life. That's the kind of stuff you send someone a card for.

You do NOT send a card of encouragement to a 6'3', 310 pound man because
his team isn't doing very well on the field.

Maybe I'm out of touch. Maybe the definition of adulthood - manhood - has
changed. Maybe it is 21, 25. Maybe it's supposed to be a fluffier,
ducky-bunny-filled world and I just don't see it.

We're talking about a game in which guys who weigh over 300 pounds
routinely run into each other and we're worried about their psyche because
someone might have booed them? It's all over for us, isn't it?

God, please help us learn how to lose with some dignity.
--------------------------------------------

Maybe a bit over the top and maybe I'm overreacting, but good Lord. This
will get picked up and it will help Nebraska further become a
laughingstock.
