I *think* SP was assuming Dave Wannestadt would leave/get fired from Miami.
Both being old Pitt guys, DW would have been an easy (and horrible) choice
by SP. Instead he stayed at Miami for 1 more year and then went to Pitt (and
really screwed things up there)

Meyers comments about NU - "They fired a 9-3 coach, who won 75% of his
games, wan a clean program and had ties to the school ? Something is wrong
in college athletics these days.", made it quite clear he would never have
interviewed for the job.

down by UM before being approached (interview by media).
