[Husker] Quick Question

I'm not sure I believe that, but I will say that if things don't turn around very quickly for Callahan and his staff they could be gone within a year or two. You can't keep getting beat by 30 against teams who don't seem to have a huge talent advantage over you and keep your coaching job. (Obviously USC has that advantage) A lot depends on what happens over the next several games, in my opinion (which usually means squat), and if the team falls apart this season I believe wholesale changes will be made, perhaps with Callahan getting one more year, but many of his assistants gone, regardless of his contract status. He will probably be told by someone above that he needs to shake things up or he's gone. This is obviously all unfounded of course, but I really don't see how this could go on for two more years unless things improve drastically. I know there are enormous sums of money tied into contracts here, but also remember there are enormous amounts of money tied up in
donations and boosters who I'm fairly sure are not happy with what's going on.

It's too bad that expectations have become so high in Lincoln that this season is already being deemed a disaster by many folks, but unfortunately that is the way of the world. I think Callahan will need to win 8-9 games this year and really make noise next year on a national level in order to be here in 2009.

It should not take five or six years to change a system, albeit a very complicated offense, and show minimal progress. The jury is still out on this offense (year four), even though we supposedly have the athletes in place. And, although I've watched quite a bit of game tape, the defense's problems cannot be reduced to one or two things, there are wide spread problems occurring at almost every position- that is usually not good news for the staff. I'm not sure how difficult Cosgrove's defense has been to grasp at Nebraska, but other teams put new defenses in with able coordinators and a year later are shutting teams down. You do the math.

I read today that some of the players consider this week a pivotal week, maybe the biggest game of these players' lives considering the circumstances. I hate to pin all that on one game, but I tend to agree in this case. If Nebraska comes out and lays an egg at home this week, things will implode. If, on the other hand they play inspired football for 60 minutes it could have a great impact on the rest of the season. I know Vegas is all for money, but the fact that this team is only a 4 point favorite at home this week worries me tremendously.

Noboday has brought this up but I was told earlier this week that a former
player was on the radio and had made the comment that the money was in place to
buy out Calahan at the end of this year. The money was put up by a booster or
group of booster, anyone else hear this?
