Different fans will respond differently, but make no mistake that
the sellout streak will end if this continues, perhaps as soon as
next year. It almost happened in the early 1990s (and only some
businesses buying tickets prevented it) when many fans were tired
of Osborne losing games every year.
It will be extremely unfortunate for the program if the sellout
streak ends. Devaney realized early that if fans could get tickets
up until the game that many fans would decide not to go (and
conversely, if tickets had to be bought well ahead, many people
would buy them who otherwise wouldn't).
Moreover, the reality and perception of the fan support for the
Huskers is a significant selling point for recruiting. If fans
decide to boycott the games based on unhappiness with the current
team's performance, they will diminish the attractiveness of NU
for potential recruits. As others have suggested, there are better
ways to let decision makers know of the changes desired.
