That would depend on what you consider an also ran. In ' 04 Tech and KSU were unranked, in  '05 Mizzu and KU were both unranked so if unranked teams are also rans then 4 times BC has been beaten by 17 points by also rans. I dont know what you or Todd classify as also rans.

     There are eight teams that have beaten NU by 17 or more points in the 
Callahan era.  Texas Tech, USC twice, Missouri twice, Oklahoma, Kansas, and 
Kansas State.  I am just curious which of those teams you would classify 
also rans (maybe Kansas)?  I agree the losses shouldn't have been as wide of 
margin as they were but those are some pretty good teams and I personally 
wouldn't classify them also rans.
