[personal] [Husker] Detroit Red Wings & Husker Football

I moved from Nebraska to California 12 years ago. I used to make a
concerted effort to find a watch-site for the games that were
televised, or dial them up on the radio for the non-televised
games. Since the whole boondoggle with the coaching change (not a
Solich supporter, by the way, just not happy with how everything was
handled), I've had much less interest in following the Huskers. I
just don't recognize any of the names and/or faces anymore, so I
don't feel the "connection" to Nebraska like I did when I could flip
on the TV and see a familiar face. Win or lose, I enjoyed watching
those games because I felt like Nebraska football was different from
the other big programs. I don't feel any particular animosity toward
Coach Callahan, but he wasn't part of NU football that I remember. I
know things change, but there are probably a lot of people like me
who moved away and enjoyed the comfort of NU football that just isn't
there anymore. That's not to say that things shouldn't ever change,
or that I wouldn't have drifted away eventually, but this particular
change and the result has made it possible for me to do a lot of
remodeling and landscaping on Saturdays.

I still follow the list during football season, but I had to
seriously consider whether I would update my address when I recently
closed out an old email address.

Just my $0.02. I still hope for NU to play well and win, but I don't
feel really connected to it anymore.
