Joba got his first career blown save last night when he came in to relieve
Andy Pettite.
Joba looked great for the 7th and held the 1-0 lead when he came in for Andy
getting 2 guys out, one by the strikeout.
It's no secret I'm a Joba apologist, but when Joba came out of the 8th kind
of a freak incident occurred and the wind completely died and the field was
swarming with gnats. It was so bad they had to stop play more than once to
bring out the "Off" for Joba and the infield. When they show the 'pitcher
to catcher' view it almost looked like a fog the bugs were so thick. You
could tell everyone on the field was completely uncomfortable and it was
really bothering Joba. He had terrible control for the 8th. I think he
ended up walking 2, hitting a batter and throwing 2 wild pitches. He had
only thrown 1 wild pitch all year (don't call the 2 over Youkolis's head
wild J). He did manage to get out of the inning by inducing a popup and a
strikeout.
Too bad.
