[Husker] Possible reasons for the delay

While the possibility of needing to wait until after the SEC Championship
game is one explanation, another explanation for any delay is that UNL
has certain procedural rules it needs to follow when hiring people.
In the case of a head coach for one of the sports, they either have to
go through the process of publishing a vacancy notice and job description,,
then allowing potential applicants several weeks to apply or go through
the process of certifying that this vacancy is an 'emergency' so that they
can bypass the publishing steps. Both of those take some time.
Another possibility is that the negotiations are taking time. Keeping in
mind that Tom Osborne isn't likely to be the interim AD for more than a
few years, UNL may want to keep the first few years of the contract flexible
so that the new AD (when chosen) isn't locked in to another multi-million
dollar multi-year golden parachute.
Yet a fourth possibility is the inverse of #3. TO took several steps to
make sure that his successor and his assistant coaches were protected for
several years, he may be trying to do the same thing for the next head
coach. (Bill Byrne complained at one point that he felt he really was
given no options other than hiring Frank when it came to hiring TO's
replacement.)
