Kiffin was an assistant coach at Nebraska from 1966 through 1976, Osborne
became head coach in 1973, so Kiffin worked for Osborne for 4 seasons.
There were some assistants who left when Osborne took over, Monte wasn't one
of them.

As far as I can tell, Barry Alvarez was never an assistant coach at Nebraska,
though he did play for the Huskers.  He was an assistant coach at Lincoln
Northeast HS 1971-1973, the head coach at Lexington HS 1974-1975, the
head coach at Mason City HS 1976-1978, an assistant at Iowa 1979-1986, 
an assistant at Notre Dame 1987-1989 and was the head coach at Wisconsin 
1990-2005.
