I think these days it would be difficult for ANYONE to do both jobs,
which is why you very seldom see that happening, at least in Division 1A.

Alvarez is in rather rare company in terms of even being a former head
football coach now serving as AD.  It'll be interesting to see how well 
he does over the long haul (or medium haul, since he's nearly 61 now), can 
he keep Bret Bielema from being hired away, for example?
