[Husker] Announcement

Really Pederson's problem was no different than Frank's. Frank felt, we are
Nebraska, we don't have to work at recruiting, anyone will come here.
Pederson believed, we are Nebraska, anyone will come here. Awhile into the
process, both realized their assumption wasn't quite correct.

As far as recognizing Pederson for a fraud, it was more a case of two very
healthy egos coming into conflict : ) Also, I don't believe it ever got to a
face to face, as I recall, the communication was still through his agent.
(Remember, this is why a coach can say, "I never talked to Nebraska". A good
reporter would follow up with the question, "has your agent been in contact
with Nebraska?")

I agree with your assessment. (However, ND can still claim they didn't
sacrifice their academic integrity for football). At the time, I wanted
either Rodriguez or Meyer. Rodriguez wasn't interested the first time and I
doubt anything has changed. Meyer was somewhat of a dicey choice at that
time because there was the fear that even after only a year he would jump if
Notre Dame called. (I think he would have gone there in '05, but Florida
gave him a chip to play hardball, and he didn't need to back down). However,
I think he has a great offensive philosophy and I was intrigued to hear
Osborne is a fan.

BTW whoever it was on the List a couple of years ago that said I was crazy,
a liar or didn't know what I was talking about when I said that Osborne's
job was in jeopardy had he lost the Bluebonnet bowl, do you have a different
opinion now?

Gerald
