Exactly so. I think that is one of the most salient aspects of
the article. Jim Pillen, who certainly knows NU football better
than most of the yahoo critics (which is exactly what they are,
whooping it up and enjoying their attacks), was quoted: "The part
I've struggled with most through this is that there's been constant
criticism of our program," Pillen said. "It's been going on for four
years. Most Nebraska fans don't know anything different than what
they read, so they just line up like a bunch of ducks." However,
I'd go beyond the four years that Pillen cites. Exactly the same
yahoo critiques contributed to the environment where Solich's 75%
winning rate wasn't deemed good enough, who wanted to fire Osborne
and who want to fire Devaney. It would seem that this would be a
learning experience for some of these Husker fans, but either many
can't see the cause-effect or they enjoy their hate party a little
too much (e.g., dreaming up firing BC at halftime of the Creighton
game).
