Thanks "Sue", (yes, I saw the smiley)
Actually, my point was to refute the earlier post that both teams had about the same level of players. Not true.
To compare the number of recruiting stars to the current starters isn't fair, either. As another poster mentioned, the time to develop is very critical as well. That is, a 4-star Senior should theoretically be better than a 4-star freshman.
I'm not defending Cosgrove here. I just think the original poster made a false assumption that the level of the players should have been about the same.

Tommy, let's see if I understand this, LSU has recruited better players on defense and they have played better on the field. Is that right? Thanks for the analysis! : )

I went back and pulled the 4 and 5 star defensive recruits for the Huskers and LSU for the past 4 years. The rankings are from Rivals.
Huskers Tigers
2007 6 4-star 7 4-stars
2006 1 5-star 1 5-star
1 4-star 4 4-stars
2005 1 5-star 4 4-stars
6 4-stars
2004 1 4-star 1 5-star
8 4-stars
I know that won't format very well for the list, but the bottom line is that over the past 4 years, the Huskers have recruited 14 4-star and 2 5-star defensive players. LSU on the other hand, recruited 23 4-star and 2 5-star defensive players.
This doesn't take into account players that were listed as Athletes (rather than a position). Some of these players were JCs, so possibly still aren't on the roster. Also, some players may have dropped out/transferred.
Bottom line is that, according to Rivals, LSU has had much better success recruiting top tier defensive players than has Nebraska.
