It's a lot more than "some input".  The coaching staff, particularly the coordinators, is entirely at the discretion of the head coach.  No AD is going to direct a head coach who to choose as his assistant coaches, and it is unlikely any head coach would stand for it.  The AD may ask for "some input", and may or may not get it.
