Very wise thoughts in your post,but let me offer one correction.  The  first 
scheduled post season contest between the Big Ten and the Pacific Coast  
Conference occurred on January 1, 1947 when a 10-0 UCLA team was shocked by what  
was considered a much weaker Illinois team, 45-14.
