Callahan had college coaching experience - don't remember where - and he was
touted as a great recruiter. I would say it is a little of 1 and 2 - but
maybe it was that Nebraska just wasn't the place for it either. There was just
to much tradition that had to be pushed away to get this system of coaching
to work. But thinking now - it doesn't seem like any of the current NFL
coaches - turned college coaches has really worked out --- so far. Weis,
Wannstead, Callahan. Would you call Al Groh a success at Virginia?

While I disagree that #2 was more key than #1 in Callahan's case, I see your
point. At least Monte has college coaching experience at Nebraska,
Arkansas, and as the head coach at North Carolina State. That would certainly serve
him well if he ever returned to college coaching.
