Ruud hears the critics who say he's too slow or soft
to follow his brother to the NFL.

Funny thing, they said some of the same things about
Barrett Ruud when he was drafted by Tampa Bay in the
second round two years ago. Barrett, in his third pro
season, was named the NFC defensive player of the
month in September.

He made at least two unofficial midseason all-pro
teams.

Bo Ruud is not the same player. He knows it.

"I'm not the strongest guy in the world," he said,
"but I can run. That's the biggest misconception, that
I'm not fast."

He proved his point with potential game-saving
interceptions returned for touchdowns this year
against Ball State and Iowa State. Even if
inconsistent in other areas of football, he's
consistently made big plays over the past three years
- five interceptions, six forced fumbles, four
recoveries and more than 200 tackles.

Big brother calls it "football intelligence."

"When you play football and study the game growing up,
things can come easily," Barrett Ruud said. "Those
little football movements, they're instinctive. People
shouldn't overlook that.

"I think Bo will have a chance at the next level. It
may not be a direct path like I had, but he's going to
work hard."
