I haven't gotten to reading the List yet, so I suppose this has already
been discussed endlessly and is "old news."
First, I can't say that I might NOT have booed at least once this season
had I gone to a game. [ I haven't.] I hope that doesn't automatically
disqualify me from this discussion.
And it's been a while since I have seen a game in Lincoln. So I don't
know, firsthand, whether boos come routinely in games any more or not.
During the Devaney-Osborne-Solich (and early BC) years that I DID attend
games, boos seemed ONLY reserved for the refs (on bad calls).
Maybe I'm just getting old, but I always have believed we have GREAT
fans: 1) that celebrate the team's victories without insulting opposing
fans; 2) that applaud the other team when they come off the field [ even
UT and OU :-) ] and 3) that travel long distances to away games, not
just BOWL games. They came out to the Lincoln airport routinely to see
the team return, and went to all sorts of non-game day pep rallies, etc.
Much more than fans of many other "football schools."
Maybe all that has changed in the last 2-3 years.
Regardless, I think even in this season's difficult climate it is wrong
to harass the coaches or their families off the field. That is low-class
and pointless. Maybe that's "PC" for "Husker Nation," but count me out. I
don't even like the BLACK in the school attire, clothes, etc. When did
the official colors go from Scarlet & Cream to Scarlet, Cream & Black
????
