[Husker] Coaches Kids getting Harrassed

I couldn't agree more with Dick and Bob. While of course this is a free
country and this "fan" can boo away if she wishes, that is certainly not the
high esteem the Cornhusker fans are supposed to be known for by being the
greatest fans in college football. Things that some have to
remember...these kids are not making millions of dollars out there. Yes,
most have scholorships, and that in itself is hard work to get and maintain
those, but it's not horrifying amounts of money. It certainly is not
classy, but if you "must" boo anyone, leave that option for the
professionals that make millions of dollars to throw the hail marys, catch
that pass in the endzone, strip that ball from the quarterback, intercept
that pass, block the punt, or kick the winning fieldgoal. That's not really
right either, as we are not perfect humans. I have a 13 year old that
finally got to put the pads on and play for the first time finally this
fall. This kid of mine eats, sleeps, and breathes football and has since he
started watching Nebraska football at the age of 2 with me. All he ever
wants to be is a Cornhusker, then a Minnesota Viking. (When he was 3, he
liked the purple guys and it stuck) Our little small town team lost every
game, but I didn't hear one boo from the stand of parents and friends. I
don't know if he'll make it to Lincoln as he dreams, but I taught him
something when I took him to his first game. It was when we lost to K-state
back in 2003 ...everyone was walking out of the stadium at 3rd quarter, and
he asked me if we were leaving too. I loudly said to him (so others around
us could hear) that we stay and support our team until the end, good or bad.
He was 9 at the time, and ended up making conversation with two K-state fans
sitting in front of us. He shook their hands at the end of the game and
told them good game and they did as well. I think it humbled them as they
were showboating around in the sea of red, and turned around and realized
this was Mike's first game. They let him stand between them on their seats
so he could see at times. He has never forgotten that, and hopefully those
two young gentlemen didn't either. I know I've mentioned this story on the
list before...(I'm a longtime "lerker" seldom a "poster") but in light of
the "declariation of booing" by this lister, I thought I would relay the
story again. Aparently she doesn't have a kid that actually plays football
with a dream for the big time. If she does, then she is going to be one mad
mom someday when her kid's team gets booed by a few inconsiderate clods that
I'm sure think they could do way better if they were out there on the field
in their place.
GO BIG RED!!
