[Husker] Callahan's response to Tom's comment

Another possible conclusion is that Callahan meant what he said (which
requires only that you take his remarks at face value). To paraphrase:
Everyone says Osborne is a man of his word with great integrity
and if anyone thinks that Osborne said something that indicates that
Osborne hasn't been a man of his word then they'll have to ask Osborne
  about it.
I mean really, Callahan hasn't had the success as NU football coach that
most of us have hoped (including Pederson, Callahan, and most of those
who like me who wished at the time that Pederson hadn't fired Solich in
the first place), but I just can't see how this is a slam at Osborne or
even indicative of not thinking well on his feet. They're asking him
to parse what many have regarded (rightly or wrongly) as a contradiction
by Osborne of his stated position. In response, he compliments Osborne's
reputation for honesty and integrity and declines to parse Osborne's
statement, which seem to me the two very wisest things he could have
done. By tying the two statements, he places anyone who claims to see a
contradiction in Osborne's statements as disputing Osborne's reputation
and needing to ask Osborne.

What could he have said that would be a better reply? Even with plenty
of time to think of a response, I'm not sure what would be a better,
except that off-the-cuff remarks are not as honed as written speeches.
So, maybe the wording could be better, but I don't see how the core points
could be improved.

I think that this simplest explanation is the most likely.

Can't we get back to the sport? It was nice when, during the NU - Texas
game, to just be rooting for the Huskers. Part of that is feeling that,
long term, the program is in good hands with Osborne rather than Pederson.
I like NU's chances to beat the spread against KU. I think that even
with the loss NU might be feeling a little more fire. I hope that Ganz
is up to the task.

> Kind of a disjointed statement. He is saying what he is "led to believe" about Tom and what "everyone's told" him about Tom, not what he personally thinks of Tom. And then he drops the "you would have to address Tom on that." Why not just say the last part " I think that you would have to address Tom on that" without the lead-in? He doesn't connect the two thoughts. It feels like a slam to me.
