Sorry for replying to my own email, but I also want to add that Luke Wertz
has absolutely saved this team. His Sunday performances have been
outstanding. Yesterday he went 8 innings and gave up just 2 runs in what
has been the same 'ol for Luke lately.
He's the main reason, IMHO, that the team has won 5 of their last 6 series.
I have very little doubt that without him we're not going to the the
Tourney.

Bob,
The Huskers DID win the series, but probably would have made a regional
anyway. This pretty much locks it for them. If they win the Big XII
tourney (BIIIGGG IF) they might even skate in as a 2 seed.
What you may not know is most RPI's have us around the #25-#30 ish mark
which almost all but guarantees us a spot. Plus, only 13 times has a team
finished over .500 for the season in the Big XII and not been put in and I
don't believe anyone's ever finished over .500 in the conference and not
gotten in.
Also, most ratings have the Big XII as the #2 toughest league in the country
behind the SEC. We finished #4 in the Big XII and probably 5-6 teams will
make it out of the Big XII. You also have to account for the fact that the
team (although not performing great) has won 5 of their last 6 Big XII
series with the only series loss to Texas (who's got the talent to go the
distance this year, IMHO).
The Huskers play Wednesday @ 10:00am against Rob Childress's aTm squad to
open the Big XII tourney.

After the loss yesterday the Huskers pretty much have to win
today. They need to win this series to have a whisper of a chance for a
Regional. It is also the only chance the Huskers have of finishing the
in the Conference over .500. It doesn't guarantee it but it gives them
a chance.
I was listening to a sports talk show on ESPN radio (1620) out of
Omaha on my drive Eppley Airfield to Lincoln yesterday afternoon. There
was a guy on there whose opinion it was that even if the Huskers would
sweep the Kansas series they are only in the conversation for a regional
and are not guaranteed a regional. But, if they lost today they are
probably history this year. IOW losing this series would undoubtedly do
them in. If this was football they would be in a better position
because then strength of schedule would enter in. But, in baseball that
doesn't factor in when the powers that be make their choices.
