I find it humorous that some folks are considering the
2007 and 2008 schedules to be "typical" Husker
schedules. Yes, Virginia Tech is going to be a tough
game...but Nebraska usually has played at least one
"name" opponent each season.
Here's some schedules from the past:
2003: Penn State, @Southern Miss, Utah State (1 BCS,
1 "mid-major" team, 1 cupcake
2002: Arizona State, Troy State, Utah St, @Penn St (2
BCS, 2 cupcakes)
2001: TCU, Troy St, Notre Dame, Rice (1 BCS, 3
cupcakes)
2000: San Jose St, @Notre Dame, Iowa (2 BCS, 1
cupcake)
1999: @Iowa, Cal, Southern Miss (2 BCS, 1
"mid-major")
1998: La Tech, UAB, @Cal, Washington (2 BCS, 2
cupcakes)
1997: Akron, Central Florida, @Washington (1 BCS, 2
cupcakes)
1996: Michigan St, @Arizona St, Colorado St. (2 BCS,
1 "mid-major")
1995: @Michigan St, Arizona St, Pacific, Washington
St. (3 BCS, 1 cupcake)
1994: West Virginia, @Texas Tech, UCLA, Pacific (3
BCS, 1 "mid major")
1993: North Texas, Texas Tech, @UCLA, Colorado St. (2
BCS, 1 "mid major", 1 cupcake)
1992: Utah, Middle Tenn St, @Washington, Arizona St.
(2 BCS, 1 "mid major", 1 cupcake)
1991: Utah St, Colorado St, Washington, @Arizona St.
(2 BCS, 1 "mid major", 1 cupcake)
1990: Baylor, No. Illinois, Minnesota, Oregon State
(3 BCS, 1 cupcake)
1989: No. Illinois, Utah, @Minnesota, Oregon St. (2
BCS, 1 "mid major", 1 cupcake)
1988: Texas A&M, Utah St, @UCLA, Arizona St, UNLV (3
BCS, 2 cupcakes)
1987: Utah St, UCLA, @Arizona St, South Carolina (3
BCS, 1 cupcake)
1986: Florida St., @Illinois, Oregon, @South Carolina
(4 BCS)
1985: Florida St, Illinois, Oregon, New Mexico (3
BCS, 1 cupcake)
1984: Wyoming, Minnesota, @UCLA, @Syracuse (3 BCS, 1
mid-major)
1983: Penn St, Wyoming, @Minnesota, UCLA, Syracuse (4
BCS, 1 mid-major)
These schedules look like our future schedules?
2007: Nevada, @Wake Forest, USC, Ball St. (2 BCS, 1
mid-major, 1 cupcake)
Ok, this looks pretty good. Better than schedules
starting with 2000, that's for sure.
2008: San Jose St., New Mexico St, Virginia Tech,
Western Michigan (1 BCS, 1 quasi-mid-major, 2
cupcakes)
Hmmm...better than 97 and probably 2001...that's about
it.
2009: Florida Atlantic, La-Lafayette, @Virginia Tech,
Arkansas St (1 BCS, 3 teams that probably belong in
1-AA)
Considering the performance of the Sun Belt conference
teams...absolutely the worst non-conference schedule
since WW1.
