BUT, I will defer to my brother Rob for his opinion, which I share, on
any "credit" SP should or should not receive for this:

"It took him [SP] way too long to do something about the basketball
program. He let it go down the tubes. It took Sadler one year to beat
Creighton, something that our prior coach never accomplished."

I think your brother has a valid point, Bill. Someone posted recently that they thought Collier was going to be let go after last season. I thought so too. However, Steve Pederson was going to retain Collier, had Barry not opted for the Butler A.D. gig. Where would we have been with this basketball program if Collier had stayed? I liked Barry Collier and thought he was a good man ... but I think it's safe to say that I, personally, wouldn't have been anywhere remotely close to as excited about the future of NU hoops as I am now.

I'll give Pedersen credit for having Sadler on his short list (he had to be ... he was hired not much more than a week after Collier's exodus). But if Barry Collier doesn't leave on his own accord, Doc's not here now.

The recent objection to the "Sadler's impact" thread was understandable. If the original poster had said that Sadler has had "an immediate impact on NEBRASKA basketball," I don't think too many would've argued. But impact on the Big XII? No, not yet (outside of most in the conference knowing that Nebraska hired themselves a very good, high-energy, up-and-coming coach). But I wouldn't bet against (and I'm really hoping for) Doc making an impact in the Big XII sometime "relatively" soon. We shall see.

I'll defer to those more familiar with the basketball program of course,
but based on what I've seen on this list it seems as if
Sadler has made an immediate impact. As I read it, the impact is more in
getting the team attitude turned around than anything else. A few players
left (that's surely an impact), and the win-loss record ought to be
viewed in that context. -- T. Heise

The Sadler season has been terrific and he apparently has done MORE with
LESS than anyone in recent NU history.

Thanks to Dave Norris for his stirring summaries of Husker Hoops. It's
been a joy !
