Hello Husker Fans,

  REALLY tough weekend for the Huskers, closed out by a terrific
  performance from Johnny Dorn though!

  ===========
  IU 12, NU 8
  ===========

  On Sunday (double header), the Huskers started out great against
  Iowa. Watson was cruising, left with an 8-2 lead after the 6th.
  Wehrle and Opitz had 3 RBIs each and everything looked great!

  Then the bullpen came in...they gave up 10 runs over the next 2
  innings and the Husker drop the first game 12-8. In all, the
  Hawkeyes scored 12 unanswered runs to overcome the 8-0 lead.

  ===========
  ND 16, NU 5
  ===========

  In the second game, nothing really went well. Belfonte and Nimmo
  collided in the first inning and in a very SCARY moment, Nimmo lay
  motionless on the field while trainers worked on him. He did wake
  up, and was taken to the hospital and was released with a concussion
  and a shoulder injury. No word on how long Nimmo will be gone, Bryce
  will be out for a little while," Anderson said. "There was a
  collision, but we weren’t sure if the collision that caused the
  injury was with JD or after he hit the ground."

  ND scored 5 runs in the first and chased starter Drew Bowman early.

  NU came back with a homer from Opitz (2nd of the day) and a few
  errors to make it 5-4 after the first inning.

  After that, not much went well. Shirek, who came in to relieve
  Bowman, and the rest of the Husker staff was lit up. ND wins the
  game 16-5 in a 10-run-rule shortened game. OUCH.

  ===============
  NU 6, Stetson 2
  ===============

  This was all Johnny Dorn. He went 8 innings, gave up 2 runs (1
  after he left and 1 on a solo homer), walked 2 and struck out 4. He
  was really masterful giving up only 5 hits and got Stetson to ground
  into 3 double plays (always at the right time)!

  In kind of a surprise move, Anderson had Bird and Herr warming up
  and he chose to bring in Edlefsen. The Huskers made it quite
  interesting in the 9th though after Dorn gave up a HBP and a BB,
  Edlefsen gave up a hit to load the bases. However, Edlefsen got the
  next hitter to ground into a 4-6-3 double play (giving up 1 run) and
  then got the next batter to lineout to Brown at first!

  Notes
  *****

  One of the best stories of the year has been D.J. Belfonte. Really
  expected to be a bottom of the order guy, he's really stepped up and
  become the team's solid top of the lineup hitter.

  He has a .304 average, but most importantly he leads the team in
  both HBP (6) and walks (9). That gives him an impressive OBP of
  .595! He's also 2nd on the team behind Opitz for Runs Scored with 9!
  He's got great speed and will most likely fill in at CF while
  Nimmo's out.

  Opitz has really been tagging the ball. Even though he was only 3
  for 10 on the weekend, he had 8 RBIs, 2 homers, and all of his hits
  were hit very hard.

  Watson and Dorn were definitely the two bright spots on the pitching
  staff this weekend. Both starters looked like they were in total
  control and dominated the other team. Unfortunately for Watson, his
  lead didn't stick.

  Tuesday's game vs UNK was cancelled due to snow and ice and was
  originally going to be made up Wednesday. They changed that again,
  however and now do not have a makeup date in mind, but will
  reschedule later this year.

  Next up: Alabama Friday @ 6:30pm, Saturday @ 4:00pm, and Sunday @
  11:00am. Tuesday, the Husker's new season opener is scheduled for
  1:05pm.
