Conversely, the fact that Callahan's agent is now
making this request through the media is a curious
development. Perhaps Callahan's agent was speaking
without the blessing of Callahan, but I can't help but
think if I was an athletic director, I wouldn't want
to read in the paper about a coach wanting an
extension.
Callahan's contract status is essentially making this
a "make or break" season, as the lack of commitment to
Callahan beyond 2009 will eventually become a
distraction to potential recruits, who are going to be
asked to make a commitment to Nebraska through 2012 or
2013.
Because of this, I think an extension will be taken
care of during the summertime.
