Good Evening:
OK here goes:
"Does anyone on this list believe that the athletic department is headed in the right direction?"
It's hard to say, but it doesn't appear to be making any great strides -
We've hired a football coach who is 22-15 after three years (I know Devaney, Osborne and Solich had a better record than this), so that's not better.
Men's basketball just hired a new coach who has brought enthusiasm but it's way too early to guess how this will go.
Women's basketball is coached by a coach that Bill Byrne hired who is improving and would have done so whether the current administration was in place or not.
The volleyball team is coached by a coach that was here when the current administration assumed the office and has continued the excellent tradition of volleyball that started long before the current administration came to town.
The baseball team is doing OK, again being coached by a coach that was hired by Bill Byrne, and the program was doing well before the current administration came to town.
Sure we added seats in Memorial Stadium and built a nice office building next to it but we're still paying for it and will be for some time. From what I understand we still have quite a way to go before we've raised our $50 million dollars to pay this off. I wonder how much football season tickets are going to go up this year? We should know in the next couple of weeks.
Our academic support program is no different that it has been in the past so what has improved there?
A CEO of a large company in Omaha and I had a discussion today about the situation in Lincoln and he is frustrated with the public relations chuckholes we seem to keep hitting down there (in Lincoln). His opinion is that there has to be something better than what we're getting for our money now and he would like to see a change sooner rather than later.
I on the other hand am just frustrated period with it all to the point that I've seriously contemplated just saying enough is enough and I'm going to quit donating (and by extension give up my tickets). I've said this before but I do not have the same feeling about the situation in Lincoln that I once did and it's gotten to the point where I can take or leave going to games etc. One would hope this is not a feeling that would make anyone comfortable in Lincoln but quite honestly I doubt that they give it a second thought, as I'm sure their thinking is oh well we've got someone else in line to take his tickets etc., so "don't let the screen door hit you on the way out". The problem with this mentality though is the line will eventually get shorter and shorter and then what have you done?
