the football team is improving from Callahan's first year
the husker volleyball team won another national title
the women's basketball team is better than they've been in many years
men's basketball is too early to tell, but the coach's mentality certainly
seems to fit what Nebraskans expect (and he did get Alex Maric to come
back)
the baseball team looks good and we have the fifth highest attendance in
the nation - it's truly become a great sport to gather around
there have been relatively no off the field embrassing incidents with
players
most of the other sports beyond those mentioned above are holding their
own
in an age where other athletic departments are having financial
difficulties or cutting sports, we are not
academics is still important and that doesn't seem to have changed. we're
still doing well there.
we've heard rumors that fundraising isn't going as well as it should, but
those are just that, rumors. We have our share of those.
Funny thing .... people really didn't like Bill Byrne either. He made a
lot of changes, I think most for the better, but they were painful
changes. Was Steve Pederson supposed to have torn everything down that
Bill built and done it Pedey's way just to prove a point? Or keep things
going in the direction they were, which was a positive direction. It's a
lot easier to take over something that's completely screwed up than it is
something that's already darned good.
Like I said earlier - I don't have to like Steve Pederson as a person to
respect the job he's doing, but it seems to me he's doing well enough.
