Good article but there is one rather major mistake. The 1960
win over OU at
Norman kept Jennings around for another year. The 1961 loss
to the Sooners in
Lincoln brought Devaney to town for the 1962 season. That
game in 1961 was the
first Cornhusker game I ever attended in person. The next
year I attended the
OSU game in Lincoln with my high school football team as I
had the year before.
It was the first time Nebraska beat the Cowboys after two
losses in OSU's first
two years in the conference. It was also the last year for
the knothole section.
Our team went to a Kearney State game in 1963.

Many of you may not remember Harry Tolly nor the 1959
Oklahoma game. I remember it like it was yesterday though I
wasn't very old being 10 at the time. Actually, Harry Tolly
is the first NU QB I remember and Bill Jennings the first
coach I remember. His Dental practice today is right across
the street from where my Barber is located. Actually, my
Barber has had Tolly for his dentist for many years. Man,
time really flies.
