I don't think that is ALL he got. He has been suspended from the team from the time this all came down until this week. Maybe people think that is no big deal because there were no games played but I doubt Purify would tell you that. To not be able to be around your teammates in workouts, team meetings, conditioning, and whatever would be difficult.

I don't think it necessarily need be that cut and dried that a player does something then this results no mater the person no matter the case. I think the totality of the circumstances have to be considered along with the mindset of the individual. It may make a huge difference in the contriteness of the individual.

And that has been my point all along. Down through NU history it HAS NOT mattered. That is why I don't understand the outrage from some quarters. NU history is full of cases where difference makers strayed outside the rules and never missed a beat or just got slapped on the hands. This one smacks as personal against Callahan. How would you have felt if Callahan would have suspended him for one game and that one game would have been USC? As I said before no way is it remotely fair to the kid to boot him for the reason that we don't want it to look as if Callahan is interested in winning games and puts that ahead of all values. Why would the kid have to pay that kind of price just so the public perception of the coach isn't tainted? To me that is first and foremost. That being the well being of Purify and not how the coach looks to the public.

Again, not to bring up ancient history, but Osborne did the exact same thing with Phillips and except for a few special interest groups and the National Media I don't remember any outcry. The vast majority of fans were right behind TO believing he knew what the best thing for the kid was and did the right thing. Why won't we cut Callahan the same slack?

Andy, you have the right to your opinion and have your opinion respected and I certainly do. But, the more you post and the more you say the more it is coming out that you really don't like Callahan and are not going to give him a break no matter what. Now it is brought into question on the timing of the announcement. What's next, what words Callahan used? I am beginning to feel like no matter what Callahan does or says it will be the wrong thing.

P. S. I know I said my last post on this was the other day. I just couldn't resist. :-)
