I also believe this is as short of a list that you will find from insiders
and people who closely follow "their team" as any in major college football.
Just do the math... 100's of college age guys... for 30 + years. I am proud
how "my university" has handled itself and the students that play for
it.(Even Osborne how he handled the Phillips situation) I don't believe in win at
all costs, but I think the University owes the player as much as the player
owes the university - a chance.

Here are a few notables who were usually given multiple chances. I think
you'll agree that the championships and "glory days" of the Huskers wouldn't
have occurred without their contributions. I'm not saying that people
shouldn't get punished. Just showing that Devaney, Osborne, Solich, and
Callahan all have given folks extra chances. Most of these served some sort
of suspension, or at least internal punishment, and then were allowed to
return to play.

Johnny Rodgers - Robbed a gas station
Christian Peter - Arrested 8 times, convicted 4 times
Lawrence Phillips - assault
Riley Washington - Charged with, but later acquitted, second degree murder
Major Culbert - Sexual assault
Tyrone Williams - Convicted of felony charge of discharging a gun
Abdul Muhammad - Bullet lodged in buttocks from gang activity
Terrell Farley - Several chances after multiple DUI's
Broderick Thomas - Arrested multiple times, although after he was a Husker
Josh Brown - Served 23 days in jail after for assault
Shevin Wiggins - accused of fondling 14-year old girls...convicted of
contributing to the delinquency of a minor
Tony Veland - DUI
Josh Davis - Theft
Grant Wistrom - Assault
Mark Vedral - 1st degree sexual assault
