That's fine if you disagree and I certainly respect that. When you are talking Andersen and Enron you are talking a little different animal than college sports infractions. I am not saying sometimes people don't become the victim of other's actions. I am just saying punishment should not be handed out to the innocent the same as to the guilty. There is a difference between being the victim of fallout as opposed to receiving the same punishment.
I just have never understood the one sins and you punish all equally mentality. Are we saying that if I do something against the rules of management in my workplace then if proven guilty ALL the employees should suffer the same punishment? If Barry Bonds is ever proven to have taken performance enhancing drugs should every member of the team be punished even if they are squeaky clean? That doesn't mean teammates won't be affected but should they be punished. Using the NCAA's logic the answer would have to be "yes".
The problem with NCAA sanctions is many times the people that have to live with the sanctions had nothing to do with the wrong doing or more than that weren't even at the school when it happened or aren't there now. Also, many times it is the coaches or higher members of a university staff being the guilty party. Why then do the kids on the team have to suffer? They had no control over it.
This is probably something that could be debated for a long time. This is something I have questioned for years. The Oklahoma situation just got me pondering about it again. Thanks, and I do sincerely appreciate your comments whether you agree with me or not.
